    Edgar R. Schalliol, 93, passed away peacefully on Aug. 20, 2017, in Scottsdale, Ariz. 
    He served honorably in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1943 to 1946. He resided with his first wife, Patricia, in Mishawaka and South Bend. He later remarried, and he and his second wife, Susan, resided in Rochester. Later he and Susan moved to Casa Grande, Ariz. 
    He is survived by his three sons, Scott, Tom and Mark; their wives; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
    His service will be at the First Presbyterian Church of Casa Grande, Ariz., on Nov. 10, 2017. Arrangements are entrusted to Messinger Indian School Mortuary.

    Darwin G. Hartman, 85, Plymouth, died Tuesday at Miller’s Merry Manor, Culver.   
    Survivors include his children, Kathryn Middaugh, Plymouth, David Hartman, Plymouth, Nancy Suseland, Plymouth, and Jim Hartman, Culver; and his brother, Leo Hartman, Plymouth.
    His funeral is 11 a.m. Saturday at Earl-Grossman Funeral Home, 208 N. Michigan St., Argos. Visitation is 9 a.m. to the time of the service Saturday at the funeral home.

    Merle E. Hostetler, 77, Denver, and formerly of Gilead, went home to be with the Lord, surrounded by loving family, at 2:45 p.m. Monday, Sept. 18, 2017, at his residence. 
    Merle was born Jan. 31, 1940, in Miami County, to Robert and Esther Hostetler.

    Carol S. Sheetz, 76, Rochester, passed away at 6:18 p.m. Monday, Sept. 18, 2017, at Hickory Creek at Rochester.
    She was born on Aug. 27, 1941, in Fulton County, the daughter of C. Frank and Delia (Lambert) Greer Sr.

    Marvin Lee Snyder, 81, Argos, died on Sept. 18, 2017, at 1:07 p.m. at the South Bend Hospice House. Marvin had been in declining health for the past couple of years.
    On March 5, 1936, in Kewanna, he was born to Alpheus “Al” Snyder and Mary Fern (Pasco) Snyder. Marvin lived most of his life in the Argos community.

    Ward A. McCarty, 93, Columbus, died 10:15 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
    Ward was born in Rochester June 17, 1924, the son of J. Murray and Henriyetta Ward McCarty. He married Norma Ogilvie. She survives.

    Survivors include her daughter, Lori Jo Wright, Kokomo.
    Her funeral service is 2 p.m. Friday at McClain Funeral Home, Denver. Visitation is 1 p.m. to the time of the service Friday at the funeral home.

    Survivors include one son, Dr. Bryan R. Benedict, Indianapolis; and one sister, Rachel McGuire, Denver. 
    His memorial service is 1:30 p.m. Saturday at McClain Funeral Home, Denver.

    Mrs. Lillian L. Hager, 95, Rochester, passed away at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2017, at her residence.
    On April 7, 1922, in Chicago, Ill., Lillian L. Mantey was born. She was a treasured daughter of Adolph and Bertha Krueger Mantey. Growing up, she shared her childhood with a brother, Ronald, and a little sister, Elaine. In 1940, Lillian graduated from Chicago’s Kelly High School.

    Her funeral service is 1 p.m. Sunday at Good Family Funeral Home. Visitation is 11 a.m. to the time of the service Sunday at the funeral home.

    Mary Priscilla Powell Burkett, 95, Rushville, and formerly of Argos, entered her heavenly home Sept. 12, 2017, at Our Hospice in Columbus, due to failing health. 
    She was born Nov. 9, 1921, to Loda (Dowds) and Glen Powell in Macy. Priscilla graduated from Macy High School with the Class of 1939 and Indianapolis City Hospital School of Nursing in 1943.
