Conrad E. Townsend, 85, Winona Lake, and formerly of Twelve Mile, passed away peacefully at 1:08 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2017, at Grace Village, Winona Lake.

He was born on Oct. 15, 1931, in Wabash.

On May 6, 1961, he married Josephine A. Hines. She survives.

He worked for many years as the foaling manager for Town and Country Horse Farms in Florida. Conrad enjoyed reading, horses and studying Abraham Lincoln's history.

Conrad was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving during the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife, Josephine Townsend, Winona Lake; children Mark Townsend (Cathy), Rochester, and Nancy Townsend, Fort Wayne; brother Wallace Townsend (Carole), Twelve Mile; and stepgranddaughter Toni Swartzell, Logansport.

Conrad was preceded in death by his infant son, Lincoln Townsend; mother Beulah (Reed) Vinson; and brother Norman Vinson.

His funeral service will be at noon Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017, at Harrison-Metzger & Rans Funeral Home, Royal Center Chapel, with Pastor Brian Sewell officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the funeral home. Burial with military rites will be performed at Kistler Cemetery in Royal Center.
