The Boy Scouts of America executive board is asking local leaders what they think of allowing gays to be Scouts. Some conservatives have denounced the proposal, saying the Scouts’ traditions would be undermined by the presence of openly gay youth. Gay-rights supporters have welcomed the proposed change as a positive first step but want the Scouts to lift the ban on gay adults as well. How would you vote? Please check the response that most closely reflects your view.
54% 1. – I like the policy the way it is. The Supreme Court has ruled that Scouts have the right to make their own rules, and the Bible makes it clear that homosexuality is a sin.
3% 2. – Local Scouts ought to be able to decide for themselves – on a troop by troop basis – whether or not to admit gays.
2% 3. – No opinion.
41% 4. – The Boy Scouts ought to embrace their own values of friendship and being loyal, helpful, friendly, and kind. I’d like to see them welcome gays. All God’s children should have a voice in the choir.
