Oct. 5, 1932 - July 10, 2012

Marvin G. Bahney, 79, 15688 N. 100 East, Akron, died at 12:01 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at his residence.

He was born Oct. 5, 1932, in Wabash County, to Urban S. and Nellie E. (Dillsaver) Bahney.

On Nov. 22, 1981, in Lapel, Marvin married Carol A. Crousore Shambarger and she survives.

Marvin was a dairy farmer for many years as well as working at Sonoco Products Company of Akron. Marvin was also a veteran serving his country in the U.S. Army.

He graduated from Gilead High School in 1950. He then graduated from International Business College with a degree in accounting.

Marvin was a member of the VFW, the American Legion and the Eagles, all of Rochester. He was very active with the LeRoy Shelton Honor Guard, serving for many funerals. He enjoyed golfing, playing cards and gardening.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Bahney, Akron; five daughters, Jana Bahney-Green, Kokomo, Lory and husband Barry Newhouse, Ft. Wayne, Jill and husband Kevin Pugh, Rochester, Kelly and husband Gary Lebo, Middletown, Ohio, and Lela and husband Gordon Nash, Warsaw; four sons, Marty and wife Kathy Bahney, Winona Lake, Ty and wife Ida Bahney, Rochester, Chuck and wife Robin Shambarger, Jackson, N. J., and Randy Shambarger, Rochester; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister, Bonnie "Colleen" Miller, Macy; and a brother, John and wife Barb Bahney, Macy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Urban S. and Nellie E. Bahney; a son, Christopher "Skip" Shambarger; a granddaughter, Aubrey Hogue; and two brothers, Bobbie and Virgil "Butch" Bahney.

Funeral service is at 5 p.m. Friday, July 13, 2012, with Rev. Junior Bose officiating at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron. Military honors will be performed by the LeRoy Shelton American Legion No. 36 and the VFW Post No. 1343, both of Rochester.

Visitation is from 2-5 p.m. Friday, July 13, 2012 at the funeral home.

Private burial will take place at a later date in the Akron Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Premier Hospice of Kokomo, the Eagles Golf Scholarship Fund or the American Legion Building Fund.
