Mary Hooker

Mary L. Hooker, 80, Argos, died at 11:05 a.m. at Indiana University Health - Goshen Hospital following a short illness.

She was born Dec. 25, 1931 in Culver to Roy E. and Ethel L. (Stevenson) Overmyer. She lived in the Argos community her entire life.

On Feb. 25, 1953 she married Richard "Dick" G. Hooker

in Argos. He preceded her in death Dec. 9, 1996.

Mary worked for Argos Community Schools as the cafeteria director for 27 years. She retired in 2001.

She was a member of the Argos High School class of 1950. Mary was a member of the Argos United Methodist Church and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 68, also in Argos.

Survivors include two daughters, Jill Ann Holzberger and husband Jack of Mitchell, S.D.; and Cheri L. Hoffer and husband James of Plymouth; three granddaughters, Erika E. Helleloid of Mitchell, S.D. ; Elizabeth M. Hoffer of Plymouth, and Jami M. Hooker of Argos; two great-grandsons, Sam and Ben Helleloid of Mitchell, S.D.; a sister, Velma Roberts of Bourbon; and two brothers, Arthur "Art" Overmyer and wife Wanda of Argos; and Kenneth "Kenny" Overmyer and wife Donna of Argos.

She was preceded in death by her husband and a son, Greg R. Hooker.

Memorial service is at 6 p.m. Monday at Argos United Methodist Church with Rev. Dewey Miller officiating.

Visitation is from 2-6 p.m. Monday at the Community Life Center at the church, 570 N. Michigan St., Argos.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Argos United Methodist Church; Argos Public Library, 142 N. Michigan St.; or Argos Dollars for Scholars, Attn: Gene Cooper, 18707 Michigan Rd.

Arrangements have been entrusted with the Earl-Grossman Funeral Home, Argos.
