Miss Frances Pauline Callahan, 89, formerly of Winamac, passed away at 3:55 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012 at Peabody Retirement Community of North Manchester.

Born in Wabash County on Dec. 12, 1922, Frances was the precious daughter of John and Ruth Anderson Callahan.

As one of nine children she grew up on a dairy farm, sharing her childhood with three sisters and five brothers. As a young girl Pauline assisted with the dairy operations, hand milking 18 Holstein cows.

Developing her work ethic as a young lady, Pauline was passionate about work. That is what brought her great satisfaction. As a young adult she continued to work on the farm. She also found time to work at Eaton Manufacturing in Winamac and Bryan Manufacturing in North Manchester.

Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, near Bruce Lake, is the home of Pauline's church family. Over the years, she loved to garden. To relax, Pauline enjoyed reading romantic novels authored by Nora Roberts, Cheryl Woods, and Debbie McComber.

Her family remembers her Saturday morning routine of shopping at Berkway grocery store. She always included extra packets of NECCO wafers in her purchase to share with her nieces.

Frances is lovingly remembered by two sisters, Berdine Azbell, of Rochester and Mary Montel, of North Manchester; four sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Katherine Callahan; and five brothers, Donald, Charles, Harvey, Russell, and John Callahan.

A celebration of the life of Frances P. Callahan is at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012 at the Good Family Funeral Home, Rochester, with Chaplain Robin LaRue officiating.

Friends may visit with the family from 9:30 -11 a.m. on Saturday in the funeral home.

Interment will be in the Oaklawn Cemetery in North Manchester.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice Services, Fort Wayne.

Electronic expressions of sympathy may be made to Pauline's family at
