Bonnie M. Walters

Bonnie M. Walters, 85, Rochester, and formerly of the Akron and Gilead areas, passed away at 3:38 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at Life Care Center, Rochester.
She was born April, 13, 1927, in Miami County, to parents Andrew and Bessie (Hinsey) Funnell. On Oct. 2, 1943, Bonnie married Donald "Pete" Walters in Peru. He preceded her in death on Oct. 10, 1988.
She was a cook at Gilead School. She also worked at Chamberlain Products of Akron, the grocery store in Akron and also at Wiles Apparel of Rochester, as well as being a homemaker.
Bonnie attended Gilead School. She was a member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church and she also attended the Olive Branch Church of God. She enjoyed quilting, playing cards and board games, playing euchre with her small group, reading books and spending time with her grandchildren. She also really enjoyed going out to eat with her friends.
Survivors include two sons, Randall Walters, Kokomo, and Michael and wife Peggy Walters, Rochester; five grandchildren, Kelly and husband Dr. Cameron Vanlaningham, Troy and wife Becky Walters, Rhonda Walters, Regina Walters, and Rodney Walters; nine great-grandchildren, Justin, Jon and James Walters, Luke, Logan, Laci and Leia Walters, and Noah and Carly Vanlaningham; one sister, Nina Opple, Rochester; special family and neighbors, Gary and Sarah Hudson, Macy, Elodie and husband Dan Grief and child Lauren, Carrie and husband Jon Finch, and Abbey and husband Josh DePoy and children Kendall and Hayden; and special friend Rita Walters.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald "Pete" Walters; one sister, Katherine Kuntz; and one great-granddaughter, Courtney Walters.
Funeral service is at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron, with Pastor Michael McFarland officiating.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Gilead Cemetery, Gilead.
