Larry J. Wilkes
March 9, 1942 - Jan. 26, 2013

Larry J. Wilkes, Buena Park, Calif., died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013 in Long Beach Community Hospital.

He was born in Rochester, to Elverna (Lange) and James Wilkes on March 9, 1942.

Larry was a graduate of Rochester High School's class of 1960. He spent four years in the U.S. Navy and lived 40 years in southern California.

Larry was a member of the Sea Coast Grace Church, a volunteer at the Aquarium of the Pacific, Long Beach, Calif., and a proud member of Alcoholics Anonymous, celebrating 37 years of sobriety. He visited every major league ball park in the U.S., despite complete paralysis on one side because he believed that "the only handicap in life is a bad attitude."

He is survived by one daughter, Jennifer (Chris) Kenny, granddaughters Rachel and Brooke, all of New York City, N.Y.; one sister, Diane (Mark) Jones, nieces Ann (John) Clark, Kristine (Troy) Bixler, great-niece Sabrina Bixler, great-nephews, Jace and Caden Bixler, great-great-nephew, James, all of Rochester; and special aunt, Elaine Adams, Indianapolis.

A memorial service will be held in Buena Park, Calif., at a later date.
