John F. Routt
Jan. 12, 1921 - April 21, 2013
John Francis Routt, 92, passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2013, at the home of his daughter in Galena, Ill., surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Wabash, on Jan. 12, 1921.
John was the son of Susan and Thurman Routt. He had five siblings; three preceded him in death, and he is survived by sisters, Carolyn Shaw and Margie Blank.
John was married on Nov. 28, 1946, to Betty Jane (Eggert) Routt; she preceded him in death in 2009.
John was a lifelong farmer and was retired from Dean's Foods in Rochester. John proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.
John was a person who "never met a stranger." He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved a good game of euchre and belonged to a euchre club in Miami County for over 50 years. John loved working on the farm and drove a tractor well into his 80's. He was active with 4-H and raised Columbia sheep.
John and Betty had five children: Dan Routt, wife Janice, and their son, Daniel Routt; Patricia Alspaugh, husband Dave Alspaugh (deceased), their son, Jason Alspaugh and daughter, Shannon Spaid and husband, Aaron Spaid; Janet Wakefield, husband Bill Wakefield, their son, Josh Wakefield and wife Kasey Wakefield and daughter, Lauren Wakefield; Pam Ranly and Dick Biggs, and their son Jeremy Ford and wife Carlyn Ford; and Wayne Routt (deceased) and his stepsons, Michael Lucas and Nicholas Black. He is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren.
The family requests no flowers. Any donations may go to the Northern Indiana Community Foundation, 13 East Main Street, Peru, note John Routt in the memo on the check.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 25, 2013, at the McClain Funeral Home in Denver.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery, Denver.

I worked with John for many years at Dean Foods. He was an outstanding employee.. My condolences to the family.
