Glen Southerton

Glen R. Southerton, of Kalamazoo, Mich., passed away Sunday, May 5, 2013.

Glen was born Aug. 4, 1930, in Macy, to the late Henry Lee and Orpha Mae (Yoder) Southerton.

Glen was united in marriage to Ann Fenning on June 22, 1957, for a loving 55 years together.

Glen graduated from Rochester High School in 1948 and completed pharmacy school at University of Michigan in 1952. He served two years in the U.S. Army, until honorably discharged in September of 1954. Upon returning from the service, he completed his master's degree from University of Michigan business school.

He joined the Upjohn Company in 1956, where he worked until his retirement in 1990. He served 14 years overseas while with Upjohn, joined by his wife and family.

He also loved to travel and take pictures.

Glen is survived by his wife, Ann Southerton of Kalamazoo, Mich.; his children, Deborah Lee (Robert) Wiley, of Portage, Mich., Fredrick Jay (Helen Bernardi) Southerton, of San Diego, Calif., Keith Edward (Sue Gawel) Southerton, of Caledonia, Mich., and Katharine Ann (Lars) Andersen, of Greenville, Mich.; and nine grandchildren, Thomas Alan and Heidi Ann Wiley, Lee Samuel, Emily Marie, Craig Eli, Erica Jean and Paul Francis Southerton, Jeremy Mogens and Devon Glen Andersen.

Glen is also preceded in death by his baby sister, Mary Lee Southerton.

A memorial service will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at Friendship Village (Kiva Room), Kalamazoo, Mich., with family greeting friends from 10-10:30 a.m. prior to the service.

A private interment will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, Mich.

Arrangements were by the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, Kalamazoo, Mich.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Friendship Village (Woods Fund) or to Hospice Care of SW Michigan.
