Christi Grossnickle
Christi Grossnickle

Christina Kay 'Christi' Grossnickle was born on Dec. 1, 1950, in Wabash, to Richard and Ruth Long.

A 1973 graduate of Indiana State University in elementary education, she began her long teaching career in first and second grades near Attica. Christi taught in North Carolina for nine years and earned a master's degree at Appalachian State University.

She retired from the Rochester Community School Corporation, in 2011. She dedicated her working life to the achievement of children. She earned the respect of students, parents, fellow educators and administrators.

Christi married Dennis Grossnickle in 1971 at Grace Lutheran Church in Muncie.

A lifelong Lutheran, Christi was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church, where she served as a trustee, on the alter guild, Luther Anns, and taught Sunday school. She volunteered at The Cross church food pantry and Second Blessings.

Christi enjoyed the classes at the Wellness Center as well as running, biking, hiking and, recently, golfing. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking and traveling. She had so much more to give back to this community that she loved, had her life not been cut short.

In addition to her husband, survivors include a son, Clint Grossnickle and companion Jessy Van Camp, London, England; and a daughter, Jessica Grossnickle and companion Marcos Flores, Chicago, Ill.; a sister, Linda (Fred) Hamilton, Muncie; and a brother, Maurice (Katie) Long, Wabash.

A celebration of the life of Christi K. Grossnickle will be held at the St. John Lutheran Church located at Fourth and Jefferson streets, Rochester, at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 5. The Rev. Mel Meyer will officiate.

Friends may visit with her family from 3-7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2 at the Good Family Funeral Home, Rochester, and at the church Monday one hour prior to her services.

Christi's final resting place will be the St. John Lutheran Church Columbarium, where she will be inurned following her services.

Memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church Columbarium Fund, Nickel Plate Trail through the Northern Indiana Community Foundation or Gentiva Hospice.

Family members & friends,

We have the most wonderful memories from Cristi and Dennis along with their children when we attended Christ Lutheran in Hickory, NC. We know heaven has gained a saint and we look forward to being reunited one day. God bless

Christi was a wonderful teacher. She was my son's teacher, and worked so well with all the parents, and if there were any concerns, she was always available...so sorry for the families loss
