Bob Brown

Mr. Robert P. "Bob" Brown, 93, was surrounded by his loving family when he passed away at 5:45 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, at Hickory Creek of Rochester.

A lifetime resident of Rochester, born on Nov. 6, 1919, Robert Paul was the treasured son of Eugene and Ella (Winn) Brown. Growing up as one of 11 children, Bob shared his childhood with five sisters and three brothers.

On June 22, 1938, Bob married the love of his life, who later became his best friend, Willodean Wagoner. Their union spanned 69 wonderful years, until her passing on Nov. 11, 2007. Together they raised two wonderful sons, Jerry and Dennis. Over the years, the family tree continued to grow with the added blessings of eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. As the patriarch of the Brown family, it was with great pride that Papa Brown oversaw five generations.

As a truck driving professional, Bob was an independent contractor, moving feed for warehousing. In the later years, he did custom grain hauling for farmers all over northern Indiana.

As members of the church for a half century, Willodean and Bob were among the founding members of the Hillcrest Baptist Church in the early 1960s. Bob enjoyed the camaraderie with his friends around the McDonald's coffee table in the mornings and afternoons. Catching up on the latest and solving the world's problems were accomplishments made there.

Left to cherish his memory are son, Gerald "Jerry" Brown and wife Cheryl, Rochester; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Utter and husband Randy, Rochester, Julie Brown, Rochester, Paul Brown, Jacksonville, Fla., Ralph Brown, Austin, Texas, Robert Brown and wife Trish, Newman, Ga., Denise Wagner and husband Tom, Lafayette, Susan Bushman, Delphi, and Gretchen Roy and husband Bill, Monticello; 17 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Fred Brown, Rochester; sister, Maxine Sifford and husband Jack, Largo, Fla.; brothers-in-law, Cletis Wagoner and wife Beverly, Leiters Ford, and Cleon Wagoner, Plymouth; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Dennis Brown; four sisters, Fern Jackson, Elsie Ball, Ruth Kochenderfer and Pauline Brown; two brothers, Earl and Arlo; toddler twin siblings; and two brothers-in-law, Cledo and Virgil Wagoner.

A celebration of the life of Mr. Robert P. "Bob" Brown will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Good Family Funeral Home, Rochester, with the Rev. George Shoemaker officiating.

Friends may visit with his family from 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.=

Burial will follow at the Rochester IOOF Cemetery, where he will be laid to eternal rest next to his beloved wife, Willodean.

Preferred memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to Hillcrest Baptist Church.

My friends and I play gospel music at the nursing homes, and Bob was such a blessing to us. He enjoyed the music, and always came out to listen. He will be sadly missed.
