Harriet "Jean" Conner

Dec. 25, 1927 - Oct. 29, 2013

Harriet "Jean" Conner, 85, Akron, died at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013, at her residence.

Jean was born Dec. 25, 1927, in Miami County the daughter of Edwin and Florence (Larson) Feller. She married Harold E. Conner on Dec. 1, 1946, in Santa Fe, Ind.

Jean graduated from Butler Township High School in 1945. Jean and her husband Harold were members of the Akron United Methodist Church. She was a past president of the Fulton County Republican Women's Club. She was a member of the Classic Dance Club of Warsaw and the Moose Lodge of Rochester. She was very proud of her years of public service, her children, as well as her grandchildren.

Jean started out as a bookkeeper for the Farm Bureau Elevator in Santa Fe, Ind., in the 40s while she was in high school. After graduating she was a bookkeeper for various businesses in Akron. Later she served as the Henry Township Trustee from 1983 - 1987. She then began working in the Fulton County License Branch. In 1989, she began serving on the Henry Township Advisory Board. While on the Board she served as town clerk until 1992. In 1995 she became the Vice Chairman of the Republican Party of Precinct 3. Also in 1995 she complete a term on Akron Town Council and then she ran and was elected to the Council in 1996 and completed her term in 2000.

Survivors include, her daughter, Judy Vaughn and husband Dana, Akron; two sons, Rod Conner and wife Angela, Rochester and Dean Conner, Kankakee, Ill.; four granddaughters, Ashley Sutter and husband Matt, Alisha Coby and husband Jeff, Leah Boyles and husband Ryan and Shelby Simonsen; two stepgrandchildren, Leia Poskey and husband David and Robert Vaughn and wife Kae; seven great-grandchildren, Nicholas Sutter, Nathan Sutter, Alexa Sutter, Lilly Sutter, Madeline Coby, Lane Coby and Anthony Vaughn; great-great-grandchild Carlie Sutter; sister, Mary Weller, Kokomo; two brothers, Larry Feller and wife Carolie, Peru; Danny Feller and wife Janice, Bunker Hill.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Harold E. Conner, who died Sept. 9, 2000; son John E. Conner, who died in 1968; and daughter-in-law, Lorriane Conner who died in 2011.

Funeral service is at 11 a.m., Friday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron with Pastor David Eaton officiating. Visitation is 9-11 a.m. Memorial contribution may be made to Gentiva Hospice. Share a memory or send online condolence at

Rod, so sorry to hear about your mother. I just lost my mother in April, so I know what you are going through. Prayers for you and your family.

You misspelled my mother's last name in your obituaries. All of the other newspapers got it right, so I know it was submitted with the correct spelling.
