Betty Louise Yarian Bucher Shireman Scott, 88, formerly of Akron, passed away at 1:20 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017, at Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester.

She was born on Feb. 18, 1928, in Howard County, to John H. and Uneta (Marshall) Yarian.

She first got married on Feb. 8, 1947, to Daniel M. Bucher. He preceded her in death on July 24, 1977. She then got married in May 1978 to Alton B. Shireman. He preceded her in death in 1990. She lastly got married on Aug. 25, 1995, to Basil A. Scott. He preceded her in death in 2006.

Betty was a farm wife and also worked at the Akron Exchange State Bank and the Fluff of Akron.

She was a graduate of Roann High School. She attended the Silver Creek Church of God and the Akron Church of God. She enjoyed working at the Akron Food Pantry and spending time with her family. She loved the farm and attending sporting events for kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. She made three-layer birthday cakes until she was in her 80s and baked cookies. She liked to work on crossword puzzles and word searches, put together puzzles, and reading.

Survivors include her daughter, Judith and husband Kent French, Silver Lake; her sons, Jerry and wife Janice Bucher, Dowagiac, Mich., and William and wife Jacki Bucher, Silver Lake; her daughter-in-law, Karen Bucher, Columbia City; her sister, Rosella Dyson, Roann; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; her stepson, John C. Bucher; her grandchild, Chad Bucher; and four sisters.

Her funeral service is at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 16, 2017, at the Akron Church of God, 301 S. West St., with her grandson, Aaron French, and Pastor Kathy Nelson officiating. Burial is in the Akron Cemetery. Visitation is 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017, at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron.
