Alan Ray Waltenberger, 78, Macy (South Mud Lake), passed away at 7:57 a.m. Friday, May 12, 2017, in Macy.

He was born on May 31, 1938, in Angola, the son of Julius Ray and Gladys Marie (Steele) Waltenberger. On June 1, 1983, in Tennessee, he married Janet L. Anderson. She preceded him in death on Sept. 14, 2015.

Mr. Waltenberger had worked for Sears and had owned the Sears Catalog Store in Rochester. Along with his wife Janet, he owned A & J Appliances in Rochester for many years before retiring. He had been a member of the Board of Directors for Woodlawn Hospital and loved to cook and grill, enjoyed hanging out with friends at local restaurants, helping others, fishing, golfing, boating and watching birds around his South Mud Lake home.

Survivors include his children, Jill and husband Paul Elliott, Lafayette, Steve Waltenberger, Warsaw, Jeff and wife Marsha McKinley, Kokomo, Jim and wife Debbie McKinley, Kokomo, Joanna Brock, Kokomo; grandchildren, Alex Elliott, Sarah Kiddy, Jordan McKinley, Mason McKinley, Rachel McKinley, Logan Brock; great-grandchildren, Naomi McKinley, Collin McKinley, Theodore McKinley, Maddux McKinley, Ryan Elliott; and one more great-grandchild to arrive anytime.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Carol Sue Waltenberger, sister Genevieve Crow, and a stillborn great-grandchild Maia Renee Elliott.

A memorial service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 18, 2017, at Zimmerman Bros. Funeral Home, Rochester, with Chaplain Jason See officiating. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will take place at a later date. Online condolences may be expressed at
