Mr. Jack F. Lewis, 81, of Rochester, passed away at 9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, 2017 at Visiting Nurse Hospice Home of Fort Wayne.

In Fulton County, on Oct. 16, 1935, Jackie Franklin Lewis was born. He was a treasured son of Lee A. and Martha Washington McGraw Lewis. Growing up as one of the nine Lewis children he shared his childhood with five sisters and four brothers.

Patriotism beckoned and Jack answered the call, serving with the United States Army during the Korean War. His service time was initiated Oct. 7, 1954. He served until he was honorably discharged on Sept. 19, 1956. Jack continued his stint of services as a reserve until Oct. 6, 1962.

On Dec. 22, 1975, Jack married the love of his life, Miss Laura Jean Sayger Adams. Their union was solemnized in Rochester, before Justice of the Peace Thelma Carr. They shared 41 years of life's adventures. Sadly, she passed away July 14, 2017.

In earlier years as a truck driving professional, Jack enjoyed the freedom of the open road. He was a devoted member of the Trinity United Methodist Church. Jack enjoyed studying "The Word" in the co-ed study group. He also enjoyed visits from his family.

Left to cherish Jack's memories are children, Ted Lewis Sr. and wife Brandy of Colorado, Christina Miller and companion Rod Talbott, Rochester, Kelly Rene of South Bend, Jodi Lines of Warsaw; stepchildren Larry Joe Adams and wife Shirley of Coleman, Texas, Ken Adams and wife Robin of Warsaw, Peggy Stover and husband Kerry of Pierceton; numerous grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister Eva Belle E. Enyart of Rochester; brother, Clyde Lewis and wife Jane of Logansport; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Jack in death are his parents, wife, grandson Rylan Miller, three Lewis brothers, Lee A., Raymond, and Harvey; four sisters, Louise Cook, Evelyn Ballenger, Harriet Herrell and Sarah Young.

A celebration of the life of Jackie Franklin Lewis will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, 2017, in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18th St., Rochester, with Pastor Gail Law officiating. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service on Thursday.

Burial will be in the Athens-Hoover Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Fulton County Veteran's Honor Guard and the U.S. Army Honor Team. Memorials may be made to Visiting Nurse Hospice, 5910 Homestead Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46814. Electronic expressions of sympathy may be made to Jack's family at goodfamilyfh.com.
