Robert Campbell

Feb. 4, 1942 - Sept. 2, 2012

Robert (Bob) Leroy Campbell, 70, Rochester, passed away at his home at 4 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012, after a short but courageous battle with leukemia.

God saw the road was getting rough, the hills were hard to climb; He gently closed his weary eyes, and whispered "Peace be thine."

He was born Feb. 4, 1942, in Janesville, Wis., to Henry Young and Lillian Laura (Loerke) Campbell. They preceded him in death in July 1953, due to a personal aircraft accident when he was only 11-years-old.

Bob was an U.S. Army veteran and married Sandra I. Spath on Aug. 7, 1965, in St. Louis, Mo., They lived in California and Wisconsin before settling in Rochester in 1982.

Bob had a varied resume including entertainment agent and personal manager, night club owner, painter, gold mining supervisor, advertising sales representative and directory publisher, but no job mattered more than the role of husband, father and grandfather.

He spent countless hours sharing from his arsenal of original stories led by his personal super hero, WillieB the B-Bomber, and bragging on his hardworking son and his artistic daughter.

In his free time, Bob enjoyed gardening, old movies and visiting with his special neighborhood lady friends, Fran, Vecita, Beulah, Susie, Lois and Linda. Bob made a habit of helping anyone in need.

He blessed people with anything he had and often what he couldn't afford. He is remembered for his overprotective nature and his caring heart.

Bob attended First Christian Church and Safe Harbor Church.

Bob is survived by his wife, Sandy of 47 years; his daughter, Pam Campbell; son, Shawn (Alyssa Box) Campbell; grandchildren Dereck and Shayla Groehler and Kennedy and Calen Campbell, all of Rochester; and his brother Theodore (Teri Caygil) Campbell of Madison, Wis.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother Henry Young Jr.

Funeral service is 6 p.m. Saturday Sept. 8, 2012, at Zimmerman Bros. Funeral Home, Rochester.

Friends may call from 3-6 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Kids' Bridge or to Indiana University Simon Cancer Center, Indianapolis.

Online condolences may be sent to
