Brett Jay Flenar, 62, Akron, died at 7:30 a.m. Sunday, April 21, 2013, at IU Health Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, after being in failing health for two months.

He was born April 23, 1950, in Warsaw, to Robert and Ellen Lee (Kesler) Flenar.

On July 11, 1981, he married Valerie Burns in Rochester; she survives.

Most recently, he worked for Rochester Rotational Molding, and he had also worked for Kokomo's Chrysler transmission plant and Federal-Mogul Corporation.

He graduated from Mentone High School in 1968. He enjoyed camping with family, restoring antique tractors and engines and the outdoors.

Survivors include his wife, Valerie Flenar, Akron; two daughters, Sandy Kay Rivera, Indianapolis, and Jessica Flenar, Kokomo; two sons, Brian and wife Kayla Flenar, Rochester, and Matthew and wife Abby Flenar, Rochester; his mother, Ellen Lee Flenar, Mentone, six grandchildren; two sisters, Diane and husband Lanny Idle, South Whitley, and Lynn and husband Roger Bucher, Fort Wayne; and his brother, Dan and wife Sherry Flenar, Columbia City.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Flenar, on March 9, 2011.

Funeral service is at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 25, 2013, at King Memorial Home, Mentone, with Minister Billy Steele officiating.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Mentone Cemetery, Mentone.

Memorial contributions are open to the donor's choice.
