Eileen Halterman Petersen went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday June 21, 2013; Eileen simply passed away at her home in the care of one of her beloved caregivers.

Lois Eileen Waltz was born June 6, 1918, to Ort and Edith Waltz, of Fulton. She was one of four siblings, which included her three older brothers, Loren, Merrill and Robert, who preceded her in death, along with her parents.

On New Years Eve 1938, in Roann, she married Harrison Robert 'Het' Halterman, of Richland Center, and the two were married for 45 years and raised two sons, Ted (Alma) of Rochester, and Lynn (Mary Kaye), of Carolina Beach, N.C.

Eileen would tell anyone who wanted to know the best part of her life was her six grand children, Craig Powell, of Fishers, Ginger Halterman Richard and Eric Halterman, of Rochester, Christina Halterman Parker, of Wilmington, Sara Halterman, of Aspen, and Andrew Halterman, of Wilmington.

Eileen was known to all family members as Aunt Eileen, especially to the four generations of nieces and nephews, and Grandma Eileen to the 11 great-grandchildren, who she so dearly loved. Just recently, Eileen celebrated her 95th birthday and, up until a year ago, had been in good health.

Eileen graduated from Richland Center High School in 1936, and shortly after found herself married and in the middle of World War II in Colorado with her new husband Het. Eileen worked for the war effort, making dental features for wounded soldiers overseas. After the war was over, she and Het built a great life together in Rochester, and both were very proud to be part of the community, taking on many roles of leadership and community service, which included owning and operating Halterman's Grocery for over 35 years. Eileen was a lifelong member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, and a founding member of the Fulton County Cancer Fund, a Woodlawn Hospital volunteer for 17 years and a member of the Fulton County Historical Society.

In March of 1983, Eileen's life changed with the passing of Het, and for the next 14 years she dedicated herself to her family and friends and the adventures of traveling and visiting with relatives all over the U.S. Eileen loved to travel by train and took many trips with her sister-in-law Phyllis Waltz, of Bremen, and cousin, Ilene Strobel of Montpelier, Ohio.

On Sept. 27, 1997, she and Dale Petersen, of Rochester, were married. She and Dale spent 15 great years together. They enjoyed traveling and visiting friends and family until Dale's passing in November of 2012. Eileen was very found of Dale's children, Marlene, Marvin, Jerri and Steve Petersen.

Eileen's life was dedicated to God, her family, her friends and community. The family would like to sincerely thank all the people involved in Eileen's care, especially to cousin, Jo Waltz, of Rochester, and to the love and kindness of all these special caregivers: Laura Wilson Conley, Darlene Reed, Bonnie Barnhardt and Leah Enyart.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church.

The celebration of Eileen's life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Trinity United Methodist Church.

Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Good Family Funeral Home, Rochester. Friends may also visit one hour prior to her service at the church.

Online expressions of sympathy may be made to her family at

Marlene and Family,
So sorry for the passing of Eileen, she was the sweetest lady that I had the pleasure of knowing and spending time with.
I will never forget how happy Dale was when they married. I so enjoyed listening to him tell me about Eileen teaching him to dance.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time.
Eileen Howton
