Hooker gets first football job at Caston
FOOTBALL

The lesson one might be able to gain from Brian Hooker is not to assume.

He thought he would be a football coach before he would be a baseball coach. He wound up coaching baseball at Rochester for 15 years.

He thought he would be the offensive coordinator for the Caston football team this year. Instead, he's the head coach.

For returning Malchow, coaching in the blood
BOYS BASKETBALL

Rob Malchow is back as the boys basketball coach at Rochester High School, and the reason is simple.

There was no unfinished business, no scores he needed to settle, no nagging losses - no, not even that double-overtime loss to Princeton in the 2009 Class 3A state title game - that he needed to overcome.

Durant, Curry combine for 73 points, lead Warriors to NBA title
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - As a fresh NBA champions cap sat a tad off-kilter on his head, Kevin Durant embraced mother Wanda. Then he moved across the podium and hugged Stephen Curry before accepting his shiny MVP trophy, holding out his arms and hoisting it for everyone to see.

From the Bay all the way to OKC.

Durant capped his spectacular first season with the Warriors by bringing home that coveted NBA championship he joined Golden State last July so determined to get, scoring 39 points in a fast-and-furious, Finals-clinching 129-120 victory over LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 5 on Monday night.

RHS' Bailey, Caston's Douglass, Winamac's Pugh advance to regionals
BOYS GOLF

LOGANSPORT - What would you do if you were a high school golfer and had to play a sudden death playoff against your own teammate for one individual spot at the regional?

What would you do if that teammate also happened to be your cousin?

Winamac's Luke Pugh had that decision after playing 18 holes at the Logansport sectional at Dykeman Park Golf Course. He chose to step aside and give the spot to his cousin Harley. Luke Pugh is a senior, so his prep golf career is over.

FLORA - Maybe it's not supposed to be your day when your softball team hits into a triple play. Maybe it's not supposed to be your day when your best hitter hits a line drive so hard that nails your fastest baserunner on the fly.

Or maybe your softball team is the Winamac softball team, a fun-loving, tightly-knit, offensively relentless group determined to atone for its loss to Lewis Cass in last year's sectional.
