Zebras sweep John Glenn
Rochester 7-9, John Glenn 3-0 (Saturday): Alec Holland's two-run single highlighted an seven-run second inning, and Cyrus Holland struck out eight in four innings for the win as RHS topped sectional rival John Glenn 7-3 in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday.

FULTON - Don't think, just play.

Caston senior point guard Marli Leazenby said that's the best advice she ever received. Lady Comets coach Carl Davis gave her that advice when she noticed that Leazenby tended to be overly analytical about what might happen in a basketball game.

Confusion reigned in the bottom of the sixth inning of the baseball season opener between Caston and host Rochester and Bob Copeland Field Tuesday.

Tuesday roundup: UConn beats ND in battle of unbeatens, wins 9th national title
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Geno Auriemma and UConn reached the top of women's college basketball in unprecedented fashion. After winning a record ninth national championship - they stand alone.



The Huskies reached the pinnacle in style, routing Notre Dame in the first NCAA basketball championship game featuring undefeated teams. Auriemma and his Huskies now have one more title than Pat Summitt and Tennessee for most all-time, and they did it in the Hall of Famer's backyard.



The Huskies had struggled recently against the Irish, but not Tuesday night, cruising to a 79-58 win.

UConn holds off Kentucky, wins unlikely national title; Napier named tourney MOP
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Coaches and players left them. Others told them to go away.



The guys who stuck around at UConn ended up with the last laugh and a pretty good prize to go with it: The national title.



Shabazz Napier turned in another all-court masterpiece Monday night to lift the Huskies to a 60-54 win over Kentucky's freshmen and bring home a championship hardly anyone saw coming.



"You're looking at the hungry Huskies," Napier told the crowd and TV audience as confetti rained down. "Ladies and gentlemen, this is what happens when you banned us."

Thursday roundup: Minnesota wins NIT; Thunder ends Spurs' 19-game win streak
NEW YORK (AP) - Richard Pitino held his 3-year-old daughter in his arms as his Minnesota team cut down the net at Madison Square Garden.



"Richard, get up there!" yelled his famous father, Rick, the Hall of Fame coach at Louisville.



First, the kid had others in mind.



"The assistants!" he shouted back.



Spoken like a coach who listened closely at the dinner table eating up every last lesson.



Austin Hollins hit a tiebreaking 3-pointer with 46.1 seconds left and Minnesota won the NIT championship Thursday night, beating SMU 65-63 to give the Pitino family its latest postseason tournament title.

Maconaquah 14, Tippecanoe Valley 2 (Tuesday): Robyn Dunnuck had an RBI triple, but Valley couldn't hold onto a 2-0 lead after two innings in a season-opening loss to visiting Maconaquah Tuesday.

Aaron Harrison's go-ahead trey lifts Kentucky past Louisville; Dawson keys Michigan State past Virginia
NCAA Midwest: Kentucky 74, Louisville 69



INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Nobody will accuse these Kentucky kids of being the fastest learners. Not this season. And certainly not during most of Friday night's game against Louisville.



But once again, late in the game with everything on the line, they figured things out just in time.



Aaron Harrison hit a 3-pointer for the go-ahead score with 39 seconds left and Julius Randle made a pair of clutch free throws to lift the fantastic freshmen of Kentucky to a 74-69 victory over their in-state rivals.

The Indiana Basketball Coaches Association named Culver senior forward Kayla Shaffer to its first-team Academic All-State list.
