Gordy Bathrick

Gordon 'Gordy' Bathrick, 66, of Muskegon, Mich., formerly of Rochester, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Aug. 6, 2013 after a courageous bout with ALS.

He was born on Christmas Day in 1946, to Fay and Mildred Bathrick in Muskegon, Mich.

He was a proud graduate of RHS with the class of 1965, and was a devoted Zebra football player. Following graduation, Gordy attended Engineer Tech school in Indianapolis.

On July 20, 1968, he married his best friend, Diane Hermann, and they returned to Muskegon so he could begin his career with Sealed Power Corporation. They were blessed with 45 years of marriage and three children.

Gordy was a strong man of faith and was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Fruitport, Mich. He enjoyed golfing, working on his lawn and cars, watching sports and serving others. He was a dedicated, hard working, persistent man of faith who will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his wife, Diane; children, Scott (Kimberly) Bathrick, Todd (Jaci) Bathrick and Sara (Ben) Vawter; seven grandchildren, Kaleb, Hanna, Maci, Logan, Bailey, Jacob and Paige; two brothers, Kenneth (Marlene) Bathrick and Keith (Carolyn) Bathrick; six sisters, Ardith (Bill) Adams, Arlene Hounshell, Marilyn Townsend, Carolyn (Jim) Wagoner and Gail (Mark) Hayden, all of Rochester, and Karen (Dan) Gibson, Snohomish, Wash.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was proceeded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Dee Hounshell.

Services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 12, 2013, at Bethel Baptist Church, 213 Oak St., Fruitport, Mich., with Pastor Paul Lamberson officiating.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013 from 2-5 p.m. at The Lee Chapel at 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, Mich.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Bethel Baptist Church or Harbor Hospice.

To the Bathrick family. I saw this and remembered Gordy more for basketball than football but know he was an athlete. Went to school with Jim, Mark and the girls. I am very sorry for the early loss of a man I didn't know well, but remember him as an inspiration for good!

while I was teaching in Muskegon 1970-1971 . Gordy and Diane invited me for dinner . I'll never forget that he changed the oil of my car for me! What a classmate! He will surely be missed. My sympathy to all of the family.
