Oct. 2, 1948 - July 7, 2019

Buni R. Leininger, 70, rural Akron, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, July 7, 2019, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.

She was born on Oct. 2, 1948, in Rochester, to Dail R. Barber Sr. and Edythe E. (Cochran) Barber.

She married William A. Leininger on June 27, 1970, at the Beaver Dam United Methodist Church. He survives.

Buni was a baker and a housewife. She enjoyed her time staying home to raise her children.

Buni graduated from Akron High School in 1966. She furthered her education at Indiana State University and Grace College, obtaining her bachelor’s degree.

She attended the Beaver Dam United Methodist Church for many years. She enjoyed helping and supporting her husband in many positions involved with the 4-H Fair as well as school activities. She organized meals and worked any role that needed filled at the Indiana State Fair for 16 years. Her family has shown at and been affiliated with the Kosciusko County Fair and the Indiana State Fair for 40 years. She traveled to attend numerous events for her grandchildren and always was one of their biggest fans. She loved doing word searches, crafting, collecting anything sheep-related, mowing her yard and tending her flower beds. She was very active with the Wheels on Fire-Cancer Crusaders and was a founding member.

Survivors include her husband, Bill Leininger, Akron; her sons, Thad and wife Rochelle Leininger, Pierceton, and Aron and wife Kayla Leininger, Akron; her daughter, Cami and husband Dave Shriver, Akron; her grandchildren, Jordyn, Jaden, Delaney, Cooper, Tucker, Miranda and Allie; her brother, Dail “Butch” and wife Jan Barber, North Manchester; her brother-in-law, Larry Jackson, Warsaw; her sister-in-law, Judy McCartney, Plymouth; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Susie Jackson; and her brother-in-law, Edward McCartney.

Her memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 15, 2019, at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron, with Pastor Butch Troke officiating. Memorial visitation hours will be from 1-7 p.m. Sunday, July 14, 2019, at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron.
