Mr. Carl Damron, 93, Rochester, was surrounded by his loving family when he passed away at 4:30 a.m. Sunday, May 12, 2019, at Life Care Center, Rochester.

In Prestonsburg, Ky., on Jan. 2, 1926, Carl was the firstborn of Bert and Audie Howard Damron. He was the leader and oldest of the 14 Damron children. Carl moved to Rochester from Kentucky in 1941.

On March 14, 1944, Carl married the love of his life Miss Rachel Bumgardner in Rochester. They shared nearly 71 years of life’s adventures. From their union came two handsome sons, Earl and Rodney. The family tree continued to grow with the added blessings of two more generations.

Growing up in the early years of the Great Depression, Carl established a strong work ethic. He was a general supervisor at Bremen Castings for 35 years. In addition, he worked for 12 years at Lakeside Foundry in Warsaw and Rochester Metal Products for four years.

Skilled with a vast amount of knowledge in carpentry, in 1947, Carl built a custom home for his family at the present location. Over the years, he built an addition each decade to accommodate his family’s growing needs. When he ascended to the fifth decade, he hired out for some carpentry help to assist with employing his thoughts. Carl and his family enjoyed their home, making memories for more than 72 years.

Carl was a member of the Rochester Church of the Nazarene for nearly 75 years. To relax, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, flower gardening and bowling. As the patriarch of the Damron family, he was proud to oversee his legacy of four generations. He loved getting together with his family for special celebrations and the holidays, making wonderful memories of a lifetime.

Left to cherish the memory of Carl are two sons, Earl Dean Damron and wife Paula, North Manchester, and Rodney Eugene Damron, North Aurora, Ill.; five grandchildren, Eric, Christopher, Keith, David and Beth; ten great-grandchildren, Madie, Sarah, Jillian, Erin, Josiah, Alexis, Alex, Courtney, Morgan and Karl, and expected to arrive in September, Daniel; numerous great-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Dottie Hutchison and husband John, Lottie Smoker and husband Ed, Ellen Conley and husband Jim and Sue Shuey and husband Marty; and numerous nieces and nephews.
