Carolyn Rose Runkle, 85, formerly of Akron, passed away at 7:10 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 25, 2018, at Chase Center nursing home, Logansport.
She was born on July 22, 1932, in Fulton to R. Emmett and Mildred (Callaway) Burns.
On Nov. 4, 1950, in Fulton, she married Robert E. Runkle. He preceded her in death on Aug. 17, 1984.
She was a homemaker and a farm wife. She had also worked in retail sales at Hallmark, Raker’s Boutique and Dress Shop and the News Stand of Rochester.
She was a 1950 graduate of Fulton High School. She was a member of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church where she was a part of the UMW. She served on the Fulton County 4-H Fair Board and had also been a leader. She enjoyed gardening, farm work, sewing, baking pies, spending time with her grandchildren and fellowship. 
Survivors include her daughter, Jan and husband Charles Thomas, Kewanna; her sons, Tom and wife Susie Runkle, Fulton, and Phil Runkle, Akron; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Doris Cassassa, Monticello; and her brother, Dick Burns, Logansport.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Runkle; and her sisters, Mary Jo Bean, Dorothy A. Miller and Shirley Naughgle.
A private family service will occur. The family will gather to receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Saturday, March 3, 2018, at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, 242 W. Pleasant Hill Road, Akron. Burial will be in Akron Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. Family and friends may share a memory or send an online condolence at
