Mrs. Martha Edna Ross, 80, Rochester, passed away at 5:56 a.m. June 2, 2019, at Mease Dunedin Hospital, Dunedin, Fla.

In Detroit, Mich., on May 11, 1939, Martha Edna Johns was born. She was a cherished daughter of Wolford Dixon and Mary Roncone Johns. Growing up, she shared her childhood with two sisters and a brother.

On July 9, 1979, Martha and Charles Richard Ross were married in Markham, Ill. They shared 39 years of life’s adventures.

A woman who enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, Martha embraced nature while sitting on her porch or gazebo and watched the seasons of the Tippecanoe River. Penny slots were her favorite game when she visited the casinos in southwest Michigan or northern Indiana. Some of her best memories were made while camping at Broken Arrow Campground in Winamac and visiting her neighbors, tooling around on her golf cart. Cruising to the Bahamas allowed for much fun, relaxation and making new friends. The very best times were spent with her family at special celebrations or the holidays.

Left to cherish the memory of Martha are a daughter, Marda Ann Vogel, Osceola; a son, Donald Johns and wife Suzanne, Rochester; four stepsons, Charles J. Ross and wife Deborah, Delong, Tony Ross and wife Vicki, Monticello, Mark Ross and wife Denise, Wheatfield, and Carty Joe Ross and wife Peggy, Wyoming; 27 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister, Deloris “Dolly” Smith, Chicago; a brother, Lloyd Chester Johns, Utica, Michigan; special friend and partner in crime, Linda Johnson, Dunedin, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Wolford and Mary Johns; her beloved husband, Charles Richard Ross on May 10, 2018; and a sister, Shirley Johns.

A celebration of the life of Mrs Martha Edna Ross will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2019, at the Delong Gospel Lighthouse, 5823 Center St. Pastor Pat Allen will officiate. Friends may visit with the family from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, June 7, 2019, at the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18th St., Rochester, and two hours prior to the service Saturday at the church. Interment will be in the Leiters Ford Cemetery.
