Norman L. Oestermyer, 89, Dugger, and formerly of Rochester, passed away at 11:59 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 25, 2018, at his daughter’s residence in Dugger.
He was born on Oct. 2, 1928, in La Porte, the son of Alfred and Evelyn (Butler) Oestermyer. He served with the United States Army during World War II.
On Sept. 11, 1948, in La Porte, he married Jeanette Hakes. She preceded him in death on April 16, 2016.
Mr. Oestermyer had been a welder for Modine Manufacturing in La Porte. He had also lived in Roswell, N.M., for more than 14 years.
He was a member of The Cross church, Rochester, and had been an active member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars posts in La Porte, Rochester, and Roswell, N.M., serving on the Honor Guard at each post. In his spare time, he enjoyed boating, fishing, having coffee with his buddies and socializing with friends.
Survivors include his daughter, Deborah and husband Richard A. Rennier, Dugger; stepgrandchildren, Richard Rennier, Wanatah, and Lisa Rennier, Portage; and brother Gene and wife Marcie Oestermyer, Lubbock, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son Vincent Oestermyer; and sister Virginia Monroe.
His funeral service will be at noon Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2018, at Zimmerman Bros. Funeral Home, Rochester. Friends may visit from 10 a.m.-noon Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Patton Cemetery, La Porte, where military graveside services will be conducted.
